GOD CAN Gospel Singers
We've Got the Power
Give me your hand, and let’s agree together
That all of our enemies will crumble at our feet
For what e’er we bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven
And at the name of Jesus, Satan has to flee
We’ve got the power in the name of Jesus
We’ve got the power in the name of the Lord
Though Satan rages, we cannot be defeated
We’ve got the power in the name of the Lord
For many years now Satan’s tried to stop us
But the church of Jesus is still alive
Like a mighty army we keep marching onward
Winning every battle with the Lord by our side
We’ve got the power in the name of Jesus
We’ve got the power in the name of the Lord
Though Satan rages, we cannot be defeated
We’ve got the power in the name of the Lord
This song is old, but very true. We as children of God need to join together and work together to proclaim the saving power of Jesus. As Paul said in his letter to the Hebrews, “Let brotherly love continue.” (Hebrews 13:1). He was telling the people there to take each other by the hand and agree together that they would serve God. Ecclesiastes 4:12 states, “And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” By standing together, we can grow stronger in Christ, and Paul mentions that as he describes how members of a church work together in his first letter to the church of Corinth, “For as the body is one and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.” (I Corinthians 12:12). He instructs us to work together so that we may accomplish more in the short time that we have here on earth.
Another thing that is true about this song is that God refers to his children by many things, one being the body of Christ, and another one of them being an army. He calls us to be soldiers to fight against the ways of the wicked and help win lost souls to Christ. In Ephesians 6, we are instructed to take up the full armor of God that we may be able to withstand in the evil days, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12). God warns us that our walk with Him is not an easy journey and that many are the afflictions of the righteous, but we have a promise in Deuteronomy 20:4 that says “For the Lord your God is He that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.” No matter what trials may come your way, God is there to fight for you and to save you because He cares.
Finally, we can boldly claim the victory in Jesus name over any problem we may face because He has already given the victory to us. Many times in the days that Joshua led the children of Israel across the wilderness to claim the land that God had promised them, God would speak to Joshua before a battle saying, “…The Lord your God hath given you this land to possess it…” as if the victory had already been won before it had even began (Deuteronomy 3:18). God always has a plan and if we just trust Him to take care of us, He has promised that He will.
So don’t go through life wondering if God will be there to help you fight the battles and struggles that you face. Boldly claim that in the name of Jesus, you have already won the fight and press onward to the goal set before you!
